ISO 50001 is an international standard for an energy management system. The standard specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an energy management system (EnMS). The purpose of EnMS is to enable an organization to follow a systematic approach in achieving continual improvement of energy performance in their organisation. ISO 50001 establishes systems and processes to improve energy performance and as a result, enable reductions in energy costs, GHG emissions and other environmental impacts (MariEMS 2017).
